In the study of health, students will learn how to maintain mental and emotional health, understand essential concepts about nutrition and diet, know how to maintain and promote personal health, understand aspects of substance use and abuse, and know essential concepts about the prevention and control of disease.

This class is designed to give the student knowledge and interest in the art field through projects and media. The student will learn basic art vocabulary and acquire an appreciation for art. Students will do a variety of activities related to their skills. |

Band

Year

This year-long class is open to all students with at least one year of experience. The band performs in several parades during the year as well as numerous concerts throughout the community. Each student must provide his own instrument and be committed to playing the assigned music which requires additional practice time at home. |

Performing Arts

This is a class for students who like to act, sing and/or dance. This elective will give students, who have the drive and discipline, the opportunity to use their creative energies and talents to produce original acts, be it music or drama, and then perform them for a select audience. |

In this quarter long class, students will learn some basic sewing techniques, use and care of the sewing machine, how to read a pattern, how to cut out fabric, and complete a minimum of three different types of projects. |

| AVID |
Year

AVID is designed to increase schoolwide learning and performance. The mission of AVID is that all students, especially students in the middle, capable of completing a college perparatory path: 1) will succeed in the most rigorous curriculum, 2) will enter mainstream activities of the school, 3) will increase their enrollment in four-year colleges, and 4) will become educated and responsible prticipants and leaders in a democratic society. |

This is a semester long class that introduces students to computer basics. It will develop skills for word processing, newsletter layout, powerpoint presentation, internet navigation, webpage design, and animation. |

Students improve their cooking skills while learning a variety of time saving techniques. Team work is a major focus as full meals are prepared and eaten by all. |
| Gardening |

This elective class provides students the opportunity to design and build a garden. The vegetable portion of the garden will help supply the cafeteria with fresh produce for our lunchtime sald bar. |
| Newspaper |
Semester

The Lakeview Junior High newspaper, The Trojan Times, is a student directed and student created monthly publication. Students are responsible for all news stories, artwork, word-processing, collating and distribution of the newspaper. |

The Lakeview yearbook is a student-designed and student-created publication. Students are responsible for photography, layouts, copy and sale of the yearbook. Our students learn to take pride in their creativity as well as the fundamentals of publication. |
