CHARACTER EDUCATION

It is generally agreed that students need certain basic skills (usually called the three R's) in order to succeed. But for children to learn and keep learning basic skills at school, they need to learn another important set of basics at home. These basics are called "LIFE SKILLS."

A Life Skill is a long-lasting, achievement-enchancing skill. It's what makes possible the use of the other skills that we learn. A Life Skill is a catalyst. It's like yeast making bread rise. Life Skills make it possible for children not only to learn but to use that learning as part and parcel of everyday life.

Each month at Lakeview Junior High School, we will focus on a different theme that incorporates such Life Skills as Honesty, Responsibility, Motivation, Compassion, Cooperation, and Using Good Judgment. Our objectives are to encourage students to take responsibility for their choices and actions and to empower students to be their personal best.
