All students at Lakeview Junior High School experience a rigorous and challenging mathematics program based on State and District Standards. The mathematics program includes computational proficiency, conceptual development, and problem solving.
In seventh grade, students:
- Perform computations with rational numbers
- Use exponents, powers, and roots
- Work with algebraic expressions, equations, inequalities, and related graphs
- Interpret and evaluate expressions involving integer powers and simple roots
- Convert within and between measurement systems
- Compute perimeter, area and volume
- Work with the Pythagorean Theorem
- Collect, organize, and represent data sets
- Use mathematical reasoning in a variety of problem situations
Textbook - Pre-Algebra - California Edition by Prentice Hall
PAR (7) - In the Pre-Algebra Readiness class, students will review and practice basic skills, compare and order rational numbers, calculate and solve problems involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of rational numbers, work with simple algebraic expressions and equations, expand their understanding of measurement of plane and solid shapes, and use mathematical reasoning in a variety of problem situations.
In eighth grade, students:
- Use and generalize arithmetic properties
- Use such operations as taking the opposite, finding the reciprocal, taking a root and raising to a power
- Solve equations and inequalities
- Graph equations and compute x- and y- intercepts
- Simplify expressions
- Use algebraic techniques to solve problems
- Work with polynomials
- Use mathematical reasoning in a variety of problem situations

CPM (College Preparatory Mathematics) - units 0 - 6 for Algebra A students
CPM (College Preparatory Mathematics) - units 0 - 12 for Algebra 1 students
GEOMETRY (8) - Geometry is an advanced math class for students who have completed Algebra 1. The students will explore perimeter and area, continue working with the Pythagorean Theorem, review simplifying expressions, solving equations, data analysis, and probability, continue graphing linear functions, parabolic functions, and inequalities, writing proofs using paragraph, flowcharts, and two-column proofs, use the basic trigonometric ratios and the Law of Sines to solve triangles and do application problems, and investigate the basic ideas of circles, including angles, arcs, chords, and tangents.
