All students at Lakeview Junior High School take part in a separate (7th and 8th), comprehensive, and sequentially planned physical education program. All classes are coed and part of the core curriculum. The program creates a balanced approach to learning among the physical, cognitive, social, and emotional domains as prescribed in the State Framework. The physical education program at Lakeview has three main goals:
1. Maintain and improve student total fitness
2. Expand student fitness and movement knowledge
3. Develop/improve student self-image and personal and social responsibility..
The students will:
- Be competent/confident in skill-related movement activities
- Understand how and why they move in a variety of situations and use this information to enhance their own skills
- Achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical fitness
- Exhibit a physically active lifestyle and understand that physical activity provides life- long opportunities for enjoyment, challenge and self-expression
- Demonstrate responsible social and personal behavior while participating in movement activities and will understand the importance of self-respect and respect for others
- Understand the relationship between history and culture and games, sports, dance and
recreation
